The forward destinations seem to change from one sign to the next all along here - usually the next town (currently Stamford), but sometimes also The SOUTH, or London, and sometimes neither. It seems to be a combination of changing sign strategies over the years and a tendency for sign designers to just copy whatever's there when they make a new one.
