A green sign with a diagram showing an exit branching off the road ahead and the following text.
Forward destinations: Berwick; upon Tweed A1 .
Exit destinations: North Berwick A198; Prestonpans (B1361); Cockenzie; Tranent (B6371) .
Junction name: BANKTON JUNCTION.
Just to the left is the site of the Battle of Prestonpans, which took place during the Jacobite Uprising. It's marked by a large and very geometric pyramid, built from a coal bing, with a monument on top. It's not far from the road but the A1 is screened by trees so it's hard to see from here.
