The London-Southend Arterial Road crosses underneath on another three-level roundabout interchange. The Arterial Road was one of the many 1930's arterial roads built radiating out from London (others include A4, A30, A40 and A41) and as dual carraigeway from the start. The section to J31 opened in November 1982 after £18.2m had been spent.
