This is one of those junctions that is enormously changed from its original layout - its bridges have been rebuilt, its shape has changed and changed again - largely because it serves Northampton, whose prodigious growth wasn't anticipated back in 1959 when the motorway opened. Today it's surrounded by enormous distribution warehouses.
