This junction was a late addition to the M1, opening in 2008. The rules that normally stop a new local junction being built on a major route like the M1 were waived, since the local area was deemed to be in dire need of an economic boost, and the new industrial and logistics facilities that surround junction 29A today were thought to be the way to do it.
