Port Talbot (a town with no Welsh name) is an industrial centre filling the narrow gap between the sea and the hills. When it was bypassed, planners chose to go straight through, so from here the M4 mounts a high and narrow concrete viaduct running close to houses on both sides, cutting through the town in quite an alarmingly invasive way.
