Motorway lane gain sign

A third lane rejoins from junction 24. We're now on the Newport Bypass, opened in 1967, just a year after the M4 had opened across the Severn Bridge. It only had two lanes, so the third lane was added at the expense of the hard shoulder through bridges and retaining walls.
