A gantry spanning the motorway with blue overhead signs indicating one lane exiting and two continuing ahead, and the following text.
Left lane destinations: M42 s ; The S. WEST; B'ham (S); Solihull; A446 ; Lichfield; [Hollow circle diversion symbol] [Hollow square diversion symbol] [Solid diamond diversion symbol].
Right-hand two lanes destinations: M6 ; The NORTH WEST; Birmingham.
Junction number: 4.
Two lanes widen out to three after the M6 Toll diverges, but one of the three vanishes again almost immediately towards the M42 southbound. This is a pattern we'll see repeated through the West Midlands. The M6 was designed as a three-lane motorway throughout, but traffic flows are very different now and there are regular lane drops.
