A blue overhead sign suspended over the motorway from a post on the left, with a diagonal arrow pointing up and left, and the following text.
A580; [Hollow diamond diversion symbol] [Solid triangle diversion symbol] Southport; Liverpool; St Helens .
Junction number: 23.
The A580 is the East Lancs Road, opened in 1934 to link Liverpool and Manchester. Before the M62 came along it was the main road between those places, but is now more of a local route.
