The 711 yard (650m) Holmesdale Tunnel. The original plan was a cutting, but to preserve the environment of housing to the north, the DoT agreed to build a "lid" over it. First thoughts suggested an elevated viaduct through J25 and the site of this tunnel but second thoughts on the environmental impact substituted a cutting and further consideration substitued a tunnel priced at £13.75m.
