A gantry structure spanning the road with overhead green signs showing the left lane exiting and the other two lanes continuing ahead, and the following text.
Left lane destinations: N'castle (W); Blaydon A695 Newburn A6085.
Right-hand two lanes destinations: The SOUTH (A1(M)); Gateshead A1 .
Junction number: 74.
The fourth lane doesn't come back from junction 75, and our third lane departs here, since we're about to cross Blaydon Bridge. It will carry us at a high level over the Tyne, and was built with only two lanes each way. Widening the A1 here was all done as economically as possible, and there's no such thing as widening a bridge like this economically.
